A Guide to a Hidden Future
Sophie tossed in bed, kicking the sheet that was her only cover. Most of the work was done, at least for moving out. She was weary from all the packing, not to mention her job as a software developer and now as the leader of a team of spiritual warriors.
Lying there, the image of Delilah as a warrior queen coalesced in Sophieâs imagination. And she recognized that as a prayer prompt. A direction as well as a promise. So she started to pray about Delilah reaching toward her potential as a warrior, a servant of God tearing down the gates of the enemy. In Sophieâs prayer, as in her imagination, Delilah was not alone. It was all of them, the team supporting Delilah, supporting Sophie. Supporting each other.
In her exhaustion, she must have finally drifted off to sleep even as she prayed. She was probably still sleeping when a golden angel appeared to her. A new angel. Not clearly male or female. Pure and beautiful. For the briefest moment, Sophie recalled a deceptive shining spirit that had come to her in the night a couple years ago. But she was not the same confused young woman she had been then, and she could clearly feel the presence of God as she focused on this new visitor.
âCome with me, Sophie.â
âWho are you?â
The angel gave Sophie their name. It was different from any name she had ever heard on earth, but Sophie was pretty sure she was no longer on the earth.
It was no longer night here. They were soaring through a pure blue sky. Sophie was flying. The sensation made her laugh.
The angel turned their smile on her, as if sharing her enjoyment.
Landing on the ground like she had as a girl jumping from her cousinsâ tree house, Sophie caught the arm of the angel to keep from face planting. In a dreamâor whatever this wasâshe could grab an angel by the arm. She had longed to do that in numerous situations in her waking life. This experience felt more dreamlike for its fulfillment of that girlish desire.
But the angel was drawing Sophieâs attention to the ground. They were standing in a meadow thick with unmown grass. Never in the natural world had Sophie stood in such a field, being a life-long city dweller. But she knew it was a pasture for animals. And, as if released by that realization, a large four-legged beast appeared. Lumbering toward them, its head was down. It seemed intent on the succulent greens at its feet.
Then Sophie felt the ground coming up to meet her. Or maybe it was only the grass that was rising, growing rapidly. Or maybe ⦠maybe she was shrinking. Within seconds, the grass was as tall as her. And it felt like more than her reduced size that linked her with the grass. The grass represented her. These were her people.
Though she didnât see them in their natural forms, she sensed that Anthony, Delilah, Hope, Zeezee, Nathan, and Carlos were also connected to that grass.
